Martin Thorell is a Swedish trumpeter and conductor. He started playing the trumpet at the age of eight and performed early as both soloist and chamber musician in Stockholm. He studied with Håkan Hardenberger and Bo Nilsson at the Academy of Music in Malmö then continued his further studies at the Conservatori Superior de Música del Liceu in Barcelona with Josep Antoni Casado.

Since 2019, Martin has been serving for the Royal Swedish Cavalry Band of the Royal Life Guards of Sweden where he plays trumpet on horseback. Together with his Cavalry, he performs regularly in both Sweden and Scandinavia.

In his time outside military, Martin is a highly sought-after orchestral trumpeter having performed with almost every professional orchestras in Sweden including the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, Malmö Symphony Orchestra, Norrköping Symphony Orchestra, Västerås Sinfonietta and the Royal Swedish Orchestra.

Martin is currently studying orchestral conducting at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm under Glenn Mossop and Mats Janhagen.

Martin är sedan 2019 anställd på Livgardets Dragonmusikkår, en av tre musikkårer ingående i Livgardet. De är och en av få kårer i världen som spelar musik till häst och med dem har han turnerat runt om i Sverige och Skandinavien flertalet gånger.

Martin framträder även regelbundet som frilansmusiker med de flesta av symfoniorkestrarna i Sverige, såsom Kungliga Filharmonikerna, Malmö Symfoniorkester, Norrköpings Symfoniorkester, Västerås Sinfonietta samt Kungliga Hovkapellet.

För tillfället studerar Martin orkesterdirigering vid Kungliga Musikhögskolan i Stockholm för Glenn Mossop och Mats Janhagen.

Jason Bae is the Founder & Music Director of Afflatus Ensemble and has recently finished his two-year role as the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra Conducting Fellowship Programme Conductor in 2020/21. Jason made his debut in Stockholm, conducting the Aurora Festival Orchestra - presenting the Swedish premiere of "Violent, Violent Sea" by the American composer, Missy Mazzoli. Last year, Jason gave the New Zealand Premiere of Lotta Wennäkoski's "Nosztalgiaim" with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra National Youth Orchestra.

He has received masterclasses with renowned conductors such as Osmo Vänskä with Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, Jorma Panula with South Denmark Philharmonic Orchestra, Kuopio Symphony Orchestra, Vaasa City Orchestra, Hamish McKeich, Miguel Harth-Bedoya, Holly Mathieson and Gemma New with New Zealand Symphony Orchestra.

Formerly trained as a pianist, Jason received his Master of Arts in piano performance with the highest distinction award, 'DipRAM' at the Royal Academy of Music in London studied under the Professor Emeritus Christopher Elton and Joanna MacGregor in 2015. Jason then further studied orchestral conducting and was mentored by Jukka-Pekka Saraste. Currently, he has been accepted to study his second Masters Degree in Orchestral Conducting at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm as the only recipient receiving the entire full scholarship from the college.
